GM Vladislav Tkachiev publishes a weekly top-10 rating of the most important and impressive novelties of the week. Recently Natalia's continuation against ex-Russian Champion GM Sergey Volkov was ranked #1 on the list!

This time things were much more logical and a series of strong tournaments bore the expected theoretical fruit. The main peculiarity of the past week has been the high number of important novelties found by representatives of the fair sex. Well, that’s not only pleasant, but also instructive – now everyone will realise the necessity of following women’s games.

..........

1. And here’s the leader. For the last half a year I’ve been keeping a close eye on theory and can tell you for certain – no-one in the world knows exactly how to equalise in the 4. f3 variation of the Nimzowitsch Defence. It turns out you had to look among women’s names.

Volkov, Sergey - Pogonina, N

Unusual, fresh and, it seems, strong. I think it will help many people feel better before tomorrow’s game.
