Chess fans tend to remember World Champions and runner-ups much better than other top grandmasters. However, since FIDE rating lists have appeared in 1971, many people have been paying serious attention the rating rankings of the players. So, do you know the GMs who made it to top-3 in 1971-2011?

Here is a complete list:

#1: Fischer, Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik, Topalov, Anand, Carlsen

#2: Spassky, Korchnoi, Tal, Portisch, Timman, Ivanchuk, Shirov, Morozevich

#3: Petrosian, Polugaevsky, Mecking, Huebner, Ljuboevic, Beliavsky, Yusupov, Short, Gelfand, Salov, Aronian
