I've been receiving a lot messages from people who like to solve chess puzzles, especially interactive ones. Previously we used to post static diagrams from time to time, but they probably were old-fashioned and not user-friendly enough.

Also, there have been many requests to provide more information about my own games.

As a result, I am glad to share with you the new widget. On the board, using your mouse, you can solve the "puzzle of the day" or a random puzzle. Please note that you are not obliged to stop solving the puzzle after the widget displays the "Puzzle solved" sign. If you are interested in the final position or not sure what the evaluations is, you can always play the game out against an inbuilt chess engine. Similarly, if you make a "wrong" move, the widget will tell you that, but you can always insist on your choice if you like and see how the match would unfold. These features make the widget highly interactive and fun: you are encouraged to act in a creative way and improve your chess by practising to take important decisions in exciting tactical positions! Finally, don't forget about using the "hint" button if you get stuck.

As of now all the puzzles are based on positions from my own games. Please let me know in the comments to this post what you think about the widget and whether you would like to see examples from the games of other chess players.

Every day a new problem will be added to the collection. Have a great time solving the puzzles!

P.S. If you have your own site, please feel free to embed the widget, thus making it easier for yourself and your audience to access the puzzles. Don't hesitate to contact us if you experience any technical problems or need special tuning.

I tried rook to c6 and couldn't find any logical defense from black. Looks like it is even faster than the suggested c3-c4. The rook in c6 must be caught by pawn, and then the 2 free white pawns in column b and c are unstoppable. Any comment on this will be appreciated.

Chess is not checkers. Black doesn't have to take the rook: it is not threatening anything. For example, Black can play Kf7 and White can't even capture on d6 due to Re1+.

M0m This is a great learning tool.!
Its better than the thing on somethingdotcom.
But I cant move anything on a laptop pad, not to mention other devices. Because I didnt use a "mouse". . maybe?. :/
Its like i click&the piece is highlighted then i cant click where it should be moved. Cant do the Drag-n-Drop thing without a "mouse".
I mean im not complaining. Maybe i should use a"mouse".
But thats what its like for ppl who dont always hold a"mouse".

0_x and Others,
I used a mouse pad on this laptop. Try clicking on the piece you want to move one time. Then click the square that you want the piece to move to.

I tried the game board puzzle of the day for July 9, 2014. Apparently, I did not choose the right move for the first move, but I still won against the computer with the first move wrong.
It would be nice to choose the right move, of course.

Mehhh lazy
Lol. I was just being lazy. I dont use mouse when im in sleeping/lie-down positions.
Most of the time its walking or standing :p
And the touchscreen problem. Moving a highlighted piece was difficult without dragndrop.
But its working now, atleast for me.

Nice widget
This is a nice widget but it should tell you whose move it is. Write something like : - White moves - above it, or - Black moves. Otherwise it is sometimes hard to figure out who moves in a given position.
