Image from the official site Viswanathan Anand switched to 1.d4 in the 9th game and obtained a promising double-edged position. White had a fearsome kingside attack going, while Black secured a serious trump in the form of a protected passed pawn on b3. Anand has spent close to 40 minutes making up his mind at the critical moment. He went for an interesting continuation, but blundered with Nf1 (instead of Bf1 with an unclear position). The game will certainly be analyzed in detail in the future, but so far we can say that Magnus has defended quite well and has earned a critical point. The match will end tomorrow, unless Anand wins a game. In the case of a draw Magnus will be rated 2872. If Carlsen wins, he will break the all-time chess rating record. Replay Game 9
