The Russian Top League is an exceptionally strong qualifier for the Russian Superfinal. Men and women play in separate divisions. Apart from monetary prizes the top-5 players qualify for the Superfinal, where they will be joined by last year's prize winners and two top-rated players in the country. This year another bonus was introduced: the winner of the men's event will be invited to Tal Memorial'2014. GM Shomoev (2565) was leading the tournament going into the final round, but lost the decisive game to Ian Nepomniatchi (2717).

Nonetheless, the results of the men's tournament were rather sensational. A few dark horses have qualifies, while the well-known super GMs have been left behind. Special congrats to IM Goganov - you don't normally see an IM in the Russian Superfinal.

1-2. Inarkiev (2680), Nepomniatchi (2717)- 6.5/9
3-7. Motylev (2655), Shomoev (2565), Goganov (2562)
, Jakovenko (2713), Eliseev (2557) - 6
8-13. Tomashevsky (2709), Alekseev (2714), Matlakov (2665), Prizant (2515), Demchenko (2639), Dvoiris - 5.5 (2533)
et. al.
