In our preview we reported on the essence of the Russian Top League and this year's participants. In the men's tournament the main sensation was 16-year GM Daniil Dubov, a protege of the well-known GM Sergey Shipov. The chess prodigy was leading the event most of the time, and only a last round loss preventing him from winning the gold medal. The women's tournament was even more exciting. After round 9 both Natalia Pogonina and Baira Kovanova had 7/9. In the end Baira came on top with 9 points, while Natalia made two draws and finished at 8/11. Nevertheless, WGM Pogonina was the only undefeated player in the women's tournament. Her result is impressive: 5 wins, 6 draws and +10.1 ratings points! Here are the players who have qualified for the Russian Superfinals: Men
Evgeny Alekseev and Anton Demchenko (both with 7/11) didn't qualify due to inferior tie-break scores. Women
Ekaterina TImofeeva and Anastacia Bodnaruk also got 7 points, but had a lower tie-break score than Olga Girya. Full standings: men and women
