Former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov (b. 1951) is facing four times US Champion Yasser Seirawan (b. 1960) in a chess match in St. Louis. The format is the following: two classical time control games worth 2 points each; two rapid games worth 2 points each; 10 blitz games worth 1 point each. The winner will get a $10,000 prize; the runner-up - $7,000. A touch of history: the first game between the two GMs happened 30 years ago in 1982: Karpov-Seirawan, 1-0. Overall, according to ChessGames.com, Karpov is leading in classical chess: +4 -2 =9. In shorter time control games Seirawan had a small edge: +5 -4 =2. Karpov's highest chess rating was 2780, Seirawan's - 2658. Yasser Seirawan has become fairly active over the last few years. In May he scored 3.5/11 at the US Chess Championship. Anatoly Karpov hasn't played a tournament since 2009 (when he scored 1.5/9 at Donostia) and is now mainly occupied with his work as a deputy of the State Duma.
