A prisoner requests a transfer to a cell with the maximum possible volume but unfortunately it is also the cell with the smallest window. The window is x+1 square and the cell has dimensions 3–x, 1–x, and 2–x. What is the volume that no cell can exceed?

V=X^3+6X^2-11X+12
Therefore
V'=0 = 3X^2+12X-11
Then X=0.5 or -2.906 is nonsensical solution so X=0.5 and cell volume 8.125. Let's hope that is in meters. :)

I don't think 8.125 is the biggest possible volume though, even though the differential calculus says it is.

X=-1
V=4*3*2=24
The window is a bit small, though.
