The 2011 FIDE World Chess Cup will take place from August 26 to September 21 in Khanty-Mansyisk, Russia. FIDE has just published the official pairings for round 1 featuring 128 players. The main sensation is the match-up Judit Polgar - Hou Yifan. The greatest female player in the history of chess vs the current Women's World Chess Champion.
WGM Natalia Pogonina: I am very excited about this duel. Judit doesn't often have a chance to face other women, so this is a unique opportunity. In my opinion, Polgar is stronger (a 2700 vs a 2550), and also in a better chess shape than Hou Yifan. However, the match will be short and very tense in the psychological sense, so anything can happen.
And what do you think?
Update: FIDE has revised the pairings, no more Hou-Polgar match.

I have a funny feeling that Judit will win (shrugs shoulders.)

Very cool pairing! Of course the World Cup format with short matches invites surprises, and despite recent setbacks I still believe in Hou's great potential. However, for now I just don't see her winning against a 2700 opponent yet. My money would be on Judit, even more so considering her impressive current results at the World Team Championship.

Natalia, are you kidding?! Pairing revised?! Is the unbelievable 1:0 result for Yifan faked? Timo
