Hikaru Nakamura Photo by Fred Lucas Anand? Carlsen? Aronian? Kramnik? With all due respect to Hikaru Nakamura, the general public has been expecting one of the four aforementioned top grandmasters to win the event. Nonetheless, the best American player has clinched an impressive victory in the Tata Steel Chess super tournament and left the World Champion Viswanathan Anand half a point behind. This success has contributed both to Nakamura's chess image and to his rating. Hikaru is currently #7 on the liverating list and just a few points from overtaking the #5 spot. Anand finished in clear second, while Aronian and Carlsen tied for third Luke McShane Photo by Fred Lucas In the B group Luke McShane has proven that his recent success in London Classic was well-deserved. Both he and David Navara have scored an impressive 8.5/13, and should be invited to the A group next year. Zakhar Efimenko came third with 8/13. Lahno vs Vocaturo Photo by Fred Lucas Daniele Vocaturo (9 points in 13 games) looked unstoppable in the C group. The 14-year old GM Ilya Nyzhnyk came second with an impressive 8.5/13. It is also worth noting that the female players have done well: Kateryna Lahno was leading the tournament at some point and has scored 8/13 (bronze); while Tania Sachdev, who was seeded last, finished at 50%.
