Chess fans tend to remember World Champions and runner-ups much better than other top grandmasters. However, since FIDE rating lists have appeared in 1971, many people have been paying serious attention the rating rankings of the players. So, do you know the GMs who made it to top-3 in 1971-2011?

Here is a complete list:

#1: Fischer, Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik, Topalov, Anand, Carlsen

#2: Spassky, Korchnoi, Tal, Portisch, Timman, Ivanchuk, Shirov, Morozevich

#3: Petrosian, Polugaevsky, Mecking, Huebner, Ljuboevic, Beliavsky, Yusupov, Short, Gelfand, Salov, Aronian

Relatively few personalities for a 40-year time span, right?

Nice list,but I think,that must be Beliavsky on the second line,/lose with Kasparov and than Gary play with Karpov and win/.Alexander is still the best chess-player for Slowenia team/from 1996 till 2010/. 
 
Maybe exist list for Women too?
