Both Sergei Karjakin (#5 in the world, 2776) and Ian Nepomniatchi (#15 in the world, 2733) are considered to be some of the greatest young players out there. The guys are 20 years old and are both attending the RGSU university (known for hosting Moscow Open, Women's World Blitz Championship, etc.). After their dramatic duel at Russian Superfinal-2010, where Ian barely clinched a win by drawing the Armageddon game with Black, an idea was born to hold a re-match between the two leading grandmasters.

On January 9th Karjakin and Nepomniatchi have played 2 rapid games, 4 blitz games, and another Armageddon. The fight has once again been very close, and this time the tables have turned - Karjakin won by drawing the Armageddon game.
