Today will be a photo day - here's a new album from WIECC-2005, Kishinev, Moldova. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Press "More" to read the new article of the "Lucky 7" series about Women European Championship-2005.

The European Championship in 2005 was held in Kishinev, Moldova. A great city blooming with green trees, excellent playing conditions, a great cultural program. The tournament has accumulated a record-breaking amount of participants, including some of the strongest female chess players. The spacious Presidents Palace has been chosen as a playing hall.

My main aim for the tournament was to qualify for  the World Championship. Unfortunately, I failed to achieve it. I scored 7 out of 12, with 6 draws, 4 wins, 2 losses. My mood was far from peaceful I kept struggling in every game, but couldnt win every game. My favorite walks (there was a beautiful park with a pond nearby) didnt help, neither did my good mood we have a cheerful company at the event.

That year 15-year old (!) Ekaterina Lakhno became the European Champion, silver went to Nadezhda Kosintzeva, while Yelena Dembo took bronze.

Something remarkable to remember: in the 8 round I have been playing with Marie Sebag. The game lasted rather long, most of the players have already finished their games. Suddenly I felt that the table was beginning to shake, the same as the chandeliers at the palaces ceiling. That was a sign of an earthquake, fortunately, a mild one. I pulled myself together and won the game:

I'm not a fan of board games. When we were llitte my younger brother was a poor loser, so playing was never fun. give me a book to read instead.
