After the eighth round started, a very special event took place at the tournament venue: a press conference with the participation of three outstanding Olympic champions. Chess Olympic champion Judit Polgar (the strongest female player ever), water polo Olympic champion Dr. Tamas Farago and wrestling Olympic champion Dr. Csaba Hegedus.

These three sportive personalities belong to a very narrow circle known in Hungary as The club of the Immortals, limited to a number of 21. New members are accepted only if one of the old ones passes away. Little wonder that the event attracted a large number of spectators.

Over more than one and a half hour, the special guests answered to the moderator's and the public's questions, offering a unique insight into the World of top performance, speaking about their hopes and fears, achievements and failures, strengths and weaknesses, but above all about their hard work to reach the highest sportive peaks.

Judit Polgar: "Even though chess is an individual sport, you need to have a "team" helping you. I was lucky to be the last born sister of the family and received a lot of help and encouragement from Susan and Sofia".

Dr. Tamas Farago: "Sportsmen are like gladiators: everybody is acclaiming and applauding the winner, but when you lose the public can be merciless."

Dr. Csaba Hegedus: "After I won my trainer told me: "So what, anybody can be a World Champion!" At that time I thought he was cruel, but looking back I understand that this was the best way in which he could motivate me."

During the conference Dr. Tamas Farago offered his Olympic gold medal from Montreal 1976 to be passed from one hand to another so that all the present people could touch it and see it from close. "On the condition that it returns to me", he added.

In our daily report you can find the interview concealed by Judit Polgar after the conference.
