Hikaru Nakamura - 3 How often do you see someone outdistance the reigning World Champion by 3 points in a 10-round tournament? Fabiano Caruana won 7 games out of 10, lost none and had 2 totally winning positions in 2 of the 3 games he drew. His performance at the Sinquefield Cup has definitely been one of the best ever. Another analogy comes to mind: in 2009 an Nanjing Magnus Carlsen (at that time #4 in the world) also won all the 5 mini-matches and scored 8/10. On the next rating list he rose to #2 and claimed the very top spot in another month. Fabiano Caruana is officially #3 in the world now, although on the live rating list he is a commanding #2, ahead of Levon Aronian by 43 points. Will we see Caruana rise to the very pinnacle soon? Time will show. Meanwhile, today is September 7 - the deadline for signing the World Chess Championship contract. Vishy Anand has already agreed to playing in Sochi in November 2014. Will Magnus sign the contract, or will Sergey Karjakin have to replace him?
