Daniil Dubov (17) vs. Alexei Shirov (41) - battle of the generations The friendly match between Latvian Super GM Alexei Shirov (2685) and Russian rising star Daniil Dubov (2629) took place in Moscow from December 2 to 8. The event featured 6 games with the official FIDE time control. In case of a draw in one of the rounds the participants also had to play two blitz games. The event was sponsored by a well-known chess patron Oleg Skvortsov and was covered live by Chess TV, namely, Daniil Dubov's coach GM Sergey Shipov. The rating gap between the GMs is far from enormous, which can't be said about the difference in match experience and in the final score. Alexei Shirov has won the competition with two rounds to go and has eventually spared only two draws to the chess prodigy (5-1). However, Daniil has had the opportunity to face a real chess legend in a match and to beat him in blitz (3-1), so there is no reason to be upset. View the games
