Hou Yifan, China, 19, has become Women's World Chess Champion again! Photo from the official website
Hou Yifan demolished Anna Ushenina in the World Womens Chess Championship match in just 7 games instead of the scheduled 10: 4 victories, 3 draws. Poor calculation, getting into time trouble in most of the games, losing control over her nerves the Ukrainian GM was far from the merciless cold-blooded shape which she had during the last years knock-out event.
Thus, Hou Yifan became the 3rd woman in the history of the game to regain her WWCC title (after Elisabeth Bykova and Xie Jun). Congratulations! As far as we understand, she will be keeping the crown at least until next year's knock-out event.
In terms of ratings, Hou Yifan will be up to 2621 FIDE, while Anna Ushenina has been knocked out of the 2500-club. Hou Yifan will receive a prize of 114,000 for winning the event, while Anna will get 76,000 for being runner-up and 10,000 (5% of the total prize fund) for agreeing to play in China. Hence, as you can see, the women's prizes in the WC matches are still about 10 times lower than in the men's clashes.
Congrats! to Hou Yifan Anna never looked happy during the match. Something was wrong with her. Where's that Anna who beat everyone enrout to world Champ crown?

Hou Yifan shouldn't play women world champs, she's too strong for that and young enough to make a chance getting into the 2700s elo. By playing weak GM's like Anna, she is obstructing her own development. She should join the top tournaments and play the world top!
Let's hope she can rival or even outperform Judith Polgar there!

Yes,it is true. Well, first of all,Ukraine isn't a rich country. And you have to remember that before Anna won the K.O championship at age of 27 last year she was sharing a bedroom with her grandmother while living in her mother's apartment. Therefore 10k meant a lot to Anna.

I read that Anna had to pay lots of Ukraine tax. She is just getting by with a small fund from the Ukraine government. At least she got >$US100K prize money being in the final. She did not look happy since day one - but she also did not look happy when she won in 2012 WC title. She has done well. It just that Hou Yifan is better. Hou Yifan might have "home" advantage, but this is not football where there is lot of cheering as a spectator sports. Home advantage is a burden mentally as one is pressured to do well.
