Alexandra Kosteniuk Photo from the official website For the first time in the history of the Swiss Chess Championship the ultimate title went to a woman - ex-Women's World Chess Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk, who has a dual citizenship (Russian and Swiss) and represents the Russian chess federation. She earned the title by scoring 6.5/9 in the Swiss open tournament and beating IM Ralph Buss in a play-off with a 2-0 score. Our congratulations! As you can see, a few players had better scores, but they aren't Swiss citizens and hence were out of contention for the title of the Swiss Chess Champion. Also, only 1 GM out of the 6 active Swiss GMs took part. Women's live chess ratings
