Alexander Moiseenko won European Chess Championship-2013. In the ultimate round he lost an important game to Ian Nepomniatchi, but his half-point lead going into round 11 & a good tie-break score ensured the Ukrainian GM's overall success. Nine more players finished on par with him (8/11). Evgeny Alekseev and Evgeny Romanov (both represent Russia) took, correspondingly, silver and bronze medals.
The event was hosted by Legnica, Poland. The prize fund is rather mediocre (100,000 euro), but chances to prestigious title and/or qualify for the World Cup (23 spots), as well as strong opposition, have attracted an impressive field. As a result, 286 players took part. Among them were 143 GMs and 5 WGMs.
Notable facts:
1) Out of the 26 top finishers 9 players represent Russia and 6 Ukraine.
2) 4-time USSR Champion Alexander Beliavsky (he will turn 60 this December) finished 4th!
3) Ex-Russian Chess Champion Evgeny Alekseev had the best performance of the championship 2800.
4) Only a few women showed up. Maria Muzychuk scored 6 points out of 11 and finished in 119th place.
