Chess is gaining popularity in Norway due to Magnus Carlsen's achievements. From May 7 to 18 Stavanger will be hosting Norway's first super tournament. The initial idea was to have the world's top-8 players compete at the tournament, but Vladimir Kramnik had to be replaced with Peter Svidler. The final line-up: Magnus Carlsen, 2868, Norway, #1 in the world Levon Aronian, 2813, Armenia, #2 Veselin Topalov, 2793, Bulgaria, #4 Viswanathan Anand, 2783, India, #5 Hikaru Nakamura, 2775, USA, #7 Peter Svidler, 2769, Russia, #9 Sergey Karjakin, 2767, Russia, #10 Teimour Radjabov, 2745, Azerbaijan, #14 Wang Hao, 2743, China, #16 John Ludvig Hammer, 2608, Norway, #197 How will Carlsen perform in Norway's first super tournament? Will the Anand-Carlsen game be decisive? Will Aronian be able to follow-up on his success at Alekhine Memorial and Topalov - on his victory in FIDE Grand Prix in Zug? Will Peter Svidler and Teimour Radjabov recover from a bad luck streak? Are there any chances of seeing Jon Ludvig Hammer win a game? The event should be very exciting to watch. What do the participants have to say? A taste of things to come:
