Experience vs. youth - super GM Alexei Dreev and IM Vladislav Artemiev, photo (C) russiachess.org The Russian Rapid Grand Prix final was a knock-out event featuring 16 players. The prize fund was 1.4 million rubles (about $45,000); 1st prize - 320,000 rubles. It was held in Kirov on December 23-24. The major sensation of the tournament was Vladislav Artemiev's performance. The 14-year old IM has one of the highest ratings on PlayChess and his own fan club on VKontakte.ru (the largest Russian social network), where his fans publish a lot of funny demotivators about their hero. In the Rapid Grand Prix final he defeated such a solid GM as Alexander Galkin, Russian Chess Champion Dmitry Andreikin and another chess prodigy - GM Sanan Sjugirov. Here is a typical example of the art.
