Alexander Grischuk and Valentina Gunina have earned the extremely prestigious Honorary Russian Master of Sports title. To qualify, one needs to score at least 150 points. To give you a sense of how hard it is, a victory in the World Chess Championship is worth 75 points, in the European Chess Championship - 35 points, Russian Chess Championship - 10 points. Team events are also taken into account, but they are worth less. Also, Chess Olympiads and European Club Cups are somehow not considered.

Congratulations!

I played a game a couple of days ago where I lost from a rook up.

At the end of the game I completely lost my rag and starting screaming, which was quite embarrassing in hindsight. Really I was angry at myself. Other players in the tournament (including my opponent) saw this meltdown and must have thought "what a nutter".

Event: 5th stage of FIDE Grand Prix 2012-2013 (6 legs total)
Format: round robin, 11 rounds
Dates: July 4-7, 9-12, 14-16. Games start at 3 p.m. local time, last round - at 1 p.m.
Prize fund: 170,000 + 70,000 added to the final prize fund (distributed after the end of the Grand Prix series)
Participants: Gelfand, Giri, Grischuk, Ivanchuk, Kamsky, Karjakin, Leko, Mamedyarov, Morozevich, Topalov, Wang Hao, Wang Yue (replaced Radjabov , who will be absent due to family affairs)

By taking a look at the current standings, one can see that Veselin Topalov is a favorite to win the series and become one of the two qualifiers for the next Candidates tournament. However, if he performs badly, a few competitors can surpass his result, so it will be a tough race.

Pogonina.com will be following this event and offering proprietary odds for each round, showing what the probability of each outcome in each match-up is. Stay tuned!
