Tragic news: according to a forum post by GM Roman Ovetchkin, Chelyabinsk GM Igor Kurnosov (who was 28 just years old) was killed by a car while crossing the street.
Igor Kurnosov was a strong Russian grandmaster, winner of many international tournaments (Arctic Chess Challenge, Hastings Masters, Biel Open, Politiken Cup, Abu Dhabi Chess Festival, Nakhchivan Open, etc.), and was rated as high as FIDE 2680 at some point of his chess career. More importantly, he was an honest, kind, positive person; a great friend; and a chess professional who had a true passion for the game.
Igor, we will be missing you a lot! Rest in peace!

Paradoxically, endgame positions with very limited material are often just as hard to play as complicated middlegames with plenty of pieces hanging around the board. Take the deceptively simple constellation of Rook and Pawn vs. Rook, for example. The theory of this type of technical endgame is well developed and has even been verified by the so-called tablebases. But at the board, in the heat of the battle and with time running out, it is not easy to stay on track. Even world-class endgame virtuosos like Magnus Carlsen, Levon Aronian, or Boris Gelfand have slipped up in such endgames in recent years.
