Vladimir Kramnik, who hasn't yet won a single Russian Superfinal medal in his career, had a highly unfortunate day: by losing to Ian Nepomniatchi he ended up at the 4th place.  Bronze went to Nikita Vitiugov, who defeated last year's winner Dmitry Andreikin and had a better tie-breaker than the ex-World Chess Champion.

Peter Svidler claimed his 7th Russian Champion title after winning a rapid play-off (1-0, 1/2-1/2 - Black agreed to a draw in a commanding position) against Ian Nepomniatchi.

It's good news that the England chess team for the European team championships, will be the strongest we've had for a while.

With Michael Adams, Nigel Short, Luke Mcshane, David Howell and Gawain Jones all taking part, it's the first time for a while, that there are no weak points in the team.

Incidentally the two times I played for England, once in the European championships in Gothenberg, which was a total success, and the other time (and likely to be the last I'm afraid) in Turin, which by contrast was a total disaster both from the playing and personal perspective, teams actually had six players (four boards and two reserves).

After having blitzed for a couple of hours I got disgusted with the quality of my play and started pondering why I am still not a FIDE master.

A funny thought occurred to me: studying chess obsessively is just like trying to get laid. Did you get the analogy?

We will see a strange game where White very quickly got into trouble and finally lost the game to a beautiful regrouping of the black pieces.
